(Rheum rhabarbarum)


Small perennial plant with thick rhizome. Large basal, palmate leaves with long fleshy petioles and flowers, which form bunches. The petioles, when blanched, are used in salads. The roots when harvested, chopped and dried (after the fourth year of cultivation) are used as a medicinal plant due to the plant's tonic and stomachic properties. CULTIVATION: deep, loose, fertile soil.
